Introduction
Iowa State University is a participant in the Iowa Board of Regents Microsoft Campus Agreement version 3.4. Under this agreement, software covered by the contract allows the following list of software to be installed on any computer owned or leased by Iowa State University and that is used exclusively by its faculty and staff or on computers that remain in its open access computer labs:
- Microsoft Office 2010 Enterprise Edition
- Microsoft Office Macintosh 2011
- Microsoft Windows Upgrades**
- Microsoft Visual Studio Professional
- Microsoft Core Client Access Licenses***
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 (FrontPage)
** The license covers "upgrades." You can only apply to computers that have an existing Microsoft Windows or Macintosh OS installed.
*** Includes all the client access licenses (CALs) for Windows Server, Exchange Server, SharePoint Portal Server, and Systems Management Server.
Important Notes
Microsoft server software is not covered under the MCA. However, departments may purchase server software under an optional agreement in the Microsoft Select program through Tech CYte, University Book Store.
Students are not included in the Microsoft Campus Agreement (except for students within the College of Design and College of Business).

Department/College MCA Student Options
College of Business, College of Design, and College of Engineering chose to engage the MCA Student Option. The student subscription expires on August 31, 2010, and may be renewed.
Under this agreement, software covered by the contract allows the following list of software to be installed on any computer owned or leased by an Iowa State University student whose major is within the College of Business, College of Design and College of Engineering:
- Microsoft Office Standard/Professional Editions
- Microsoft Office Macintosh Edition
- Microsoft Windows Upgrades**
** The license covers "upgrades". You can only apply to computers that have an existing Microsoft Windows or Macintosh OS installed.
Students who graduate with a major in the College of Design or the College of Business while the MCA Student Option is in effect at the College become owners of their software licenses. Students who leave the College either through a change of major to another ISU College or by leaving Iowa State University do not own the software licenses and must purchase licenses via the Microsoft Student Select program in order to maintain ownership.
